Dear EGF-Academy students, former students, potential candidates,

(dear Go organizations, please forward this email to people who might be interested)

This is the official announcement for the CEGO Academic Program 2020/21 and an outline on how it will proceed in these unusual times.

As probably most of you know, the CEGO Program would usually allow 4-6 talented and dedicated Europeans to study Go at the Ge Yuhong Academy in Beijing for 5 months. Unfortunately, in the current situation it is not possible to send any European students to Beijing.

However, I am very happy to announce that the Ge Yuhong Academy and CEGO have decided to go ahead and offer the best possible intensive training despite these difficult circumstances: the Online CEGO Academic Program 2020/21 from September 2020 to February 2021.

Application is open from now on and closes on July 31! We are very much looking forward to your application! We especially encourage you to apply if you want to prepare for next year’s Pro Qualification.

The Study Program:

If you are accepted, you will be mentored by the official CEGO couch Wu Tian 2p, a very successful teacher from the Ge Yuhong Academy, for the duration of the whole program! The online training consists of:

  • Every 1 – 2 weeks: serious exchange match with students from the Ge Yuhong Academy Beijing

  • 2 – 3 times per week: lesson with your couch Wu Tian 2p (students will be asked to present games for review in rotation, this can be the games against Ge Yuhong students or any other game)

  • Every week: homework according to level, corrected by your coach

  • Participation in EGF-Academy for free (this is an optional offer in case you want additional game-playing practise. However, the previous three points are mandatory if you take part in the program)

Preliminary Schedule:

Macro:

  • Training phase 1: Monday September 7th – Sunday December 20th (15 weeks) Christmas and New Year break

  • Training phase 2: Monday January 4th – Sunday February 7th (5 weeks)

Micro:

  • Exchange matches: on the weekend in the morning, e.g. Saturday 10:00 CEST
(If real-board tournaments should start again in Europe during the period of the program, we will try to be flexible with the day of the exchange matches, so that you can participate in offline tournaments during the weekend.)

  • Lessons: be prepared to have at least some of the lessons during the week in the afternoon at around 15:00 – 16:00 CEST the latest (due to time difference with the Chinese coach).
(We will be a relatively small group of people, so we hope we can find days that are okay for everyone.)

Please note that this is still a preliminary schedule and is suspect to change. Of course, if you are accepted to the program we will try to provide you with the exact schedule as quickly as possible.

Application Procedure:
