8th Annual World Collegiate WEICHI Championship

The 8th Annual World Collegiate WEICHI Championship will be held in Hong Kong from July 9th to 15th, 2023. The director of the organizing committee and Go world champion Chang Hao 9P has invited college players from all over the world to participate.
This year’s Championship is hosted by the International University WEICHI Federation(IUWF) and Shanghai Ing Chang-Ki Weichi Educational Foundation, co-organized by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Greater Bay Area Go Promotion Association Limited.

The World Collegiate WEICH Championship was founded by the late famous Go activist Mr. Ying Ming-hao, with the aim of promoting the development of Go among college students around the world, enhancing exchange and friendship among students, and promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture. The competition is planned to be held once a year. Since 2014, six offline competitions have been successfully held in Hong Kong, China, Taipei, Canada, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Australia. After a two-years hiatus, the seventh competition was held online in 2022. The previous seven competitions have been very successful and warmly welcomed by college players from all over the world. This Go championship exclusively for college students has become a major event in the Go community.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a world-renowned research university. For more than 30 years since its establishment, it has been committed to promoting Chinese culture and has achieved fruitful results and widespread acclaim. Hong Kong Greater Bay Area Go Promotion Association Limited was founded by Women’s Go world champion Xu Ying, with the aim of promoting the popularity and development of Go in Hong Kong, and enhancing Go exchange between Hong Kong and the mainland, Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States.

This year’s championship will gather over a hundred college players for on-site games, and various activities such as Go world champion teaching game, Hong Kong sightseeing tour, post-competition friendship. The 18th semi-final of Chang Qi Cup will be held on the same place, which will increase the popularity of college students competitions.
